TL: Moonlit

Cheng Jizhou snapped out of his daze.

His appearance was identical to that of a human, but in reality, he was more akin to these grotesque, flesh-decaying zombies.
Yet, the zombies, without any consciousness, instinctively avoided Cheng Jizhou’s direction.

In the past, Cheng Jizhou didn’t care much about his identity, but now he suddenly felt a strange sensation.

Lin Hanchuan’s thunder-based ability cleared a large area of zombies at once, while Lu Mao’s fire-based ability was not as powerful as the thunder-based one, but still formidable.
There was also Wei Zheng, who lacked any ability but held a wooden club and a short knife… Cheng Jizhou began to ponder, what if his identity as a zombie were to be exposed? How would these people treat him?

Cheng Jizhou didn’t care about the others, but he particularly didn’t want to see any disgust or fear in Lin Hanchuan’s eyes.

Just as he was lost in thought, Cheng Jizhou was pushed out of Lin Hanchuan’s sight by the intense fighting around him.

Not far away, a psychic was fighting a desperate battle with a zombie.
His recently activated ability was like a broken water faucet, spurting out water erratically, and after a few attempts, he was already exhausted.
He gave up using his ability to fight, instead drawing a knife from his waist.

Cheng Jizhou casually glanced over; as the psychic stabbed the zombie in the forehead, the undead suddenly stiffened in place.
Taking advantage of the immobilized zombie, the psychic swiftly inserted the knife into its forehead and rotated it fiercely.
With a quick flick, he extracted a thumb-sized crystal core from the zombie’s head.

Cheng Jizhou shifted his gaze away, his thoughts jumping through the minds of countless zombies.
He quickly located Lin Hanchuan’s position, not far from him.

Just as he was about to find Lin Hanchuan, he suddenly sensed something was amiss.
He dodged a surprise attack from behind, turned back, and coldly stared at the person attempting to attack him.

“Damn it.” Missing his strike, the person didn’t seem too pleased and cursed, “You lucky bastard.”

Rong Ziping, protected by several people in the center of the crowd, also frowned.

“It’s you.” Cheng Jizhou raised an eyebrow slightly.
With Lin Hanchuan not around, he didn’t feel like putting up that pitiful and weak facade anymore.
His eyes turned icy as he looked at Rong Ziping.
“You actually dare to kill.”

This area was under Rong Ziping’s family of psychics’ responsibility, surrounded by zombies and people too preoccupied to pay attention.
No one would notice this.
Rong Ziping made up his mind and, without hesitation, decided that if he could kill this mixed-blood, the one he loved would return to his side!

“Attack!” Rong Ziping gave a low command.
After living through several years in the apocalypse before being reborn, he had developed the cold and ruthless demeanor typical of the end of the world.
Issuing orders with an expressionless face was enough to make people hesitate.

A flicker of red light appeared in Cheng Jizhou’s eyes.
Just as Rong Ziping secretly had members of his psychic team block the surrounding people’s view, Cheng Jizhou also had a thought.
He called forth several zombies, blocking all the gaps that Rong Ziping’s psychic team couldn’t cover.

Rong Ziping considered himself as surrounding the opponent, but little did he know, in the eyes of the other person, he was also a prey.

The psychic with the enhanced power, the one with the shaved head, revealed a vicious look and pounced fiercely toward Cheng Jizhou.
He had planned it all out in his mind; first, he would break the man’s legs and then throw him in front of a zombie.
Even if he was rescued afterward, he would be executed with a wooden club by the closest person to him.

The image of that person’s anguished and sorrowful face had not yet faded from the man’s mind when, suddenly, the psychic felt a sharp pain in his arm.
His reinforced fist was easily caught by the pretty mixed-blood standing before him.
The next moment, a zombie emerged from behind the handsome hybrid and bit into the psychic’s arm.

The last image in the mind of the shaved-head psychic was of the zombie, which had appeared out of nowhere, avoiding the mixed-blood and biting into his neck.
The sound of fresh blood gushing out was so vivid, and in the same frame, the filthy and ferocious zombie and the clean and handsome mixed-blood were juxtaposed1act of placing two or more things together side by side, usually for the purpose of comparison, contrast, or creating an interesting visual or conceptual effect., making it especially heart-stopping.

Cheng Jizhou disdainfully clapped his hands and turned his gaze to Rong Ziping.
His sky-blue eyes were now covered with a bloody hue.
“Who’s next?”

“You, you are a zombie!” Rong Ziping’s breath hitched, and he suddenly remembered a legend that had circulated among advanced psychics in his previous life.

The foreign scientist who created the zombie virus went insane and injected himself with the virus, becoming the only sentient zombie.
He could command all the regular zombies and was the undoubted Zombie King.

But no one had ever seen the Zombie King, and Rong Ziping had always thought it was just a legend.

He looked at Cheng Jizhou’s distinct Caucasian features, his overly fair skin, and now his blood-covered face, though his actual eye color was blue.
Rong Ziping unconsciously took a step back, then another, “Everyone, be careful! This is the Zombie King!”

Cheng Jizhou’s eyes turned icy as he let out a smile, revealing a cold expression.
“Don’t worry, you will join him soon.”

The next second, the zombies that had been surrounding them suddenly surged forward.
The trap Rong Ziping had prepared for Cheng Jizhou became his own downfall.

The stench of the zombies, the nauseating smell of blood, the screams of the surrounding humans, and the ferocious roars of the zombies all blended together.
Some people seemed to notice the pitiful state of Rong Ziping’s psychic team and wanted to come to their rescue, but the zombies formed a dense barrier that kept them out, making it impossible to see what was happening inside.

In a state of panic and terror, Rong Ziping felt as if he had returned to the moment of his death in his previous life, when he was thrown into a sea of zombies.
However, at that time, there had been someone who had always protected him faithfully.
But now… the guards of the Rong family completely forgot their mission to protect Rong Ziping and only cared about self-preservation, attempting to break through the encirclement and find a way out.

But there were simply too many zombies around them, and there was no escape.

In the midst of chaos, Cheng Jizhou was surrounded by neither humans nor zombies.
He stood there effortlessly, and the zombies spontaneously avoided him, while those humans who tried to attack him would be overwhelmed by the zombies.

The cries of the people around gradually faded, and Rong Ziping’s nerves trembled uncontrollably.
He could do nothing but watch as Cheng Jizhou casually walked up to him, the blue eyes now completely covered in blood-red.
“You’re the last one left.
How do you want to die?”

Rong Ziping desperately wanted to pass out, but his tense nerves just wouldn’t let him.
He could only stand in place, unable to move, as he watched Cheng Jizhou’s every move.

“Why are you crying?” A cold hand wiped away the tears from Rong Ziping’s face, and then disdainfully wiped it off on his clothes.
The beautiful mixed-blood’s eyes were blood-red, and he lightly said, “He’s not even here, what’s the point of crying?”

Only then did Rong Ziping realize that he had been so scared that tears were streaming down his face, yet he didn’t dare to make a sound.
“Please, let me go, I won’t tell anyone…”

Cheng Jizhou did want to kill Rong Ziping.
This man not only tried to take away his person but also attempted to harm him.
Killing the man would not break the promise he made to his mother.

However, after spending time with him, Cheng Jizhou also noticed that Lin Hanchuan was just like his mother, an overly kind person.
He was even more tender-hearted than his mother, a true male version of Mother Teresa.

In an apocalyptic world, he still wanted to save others, attempting to cleanse this world and save a whole country… If someone like Lin Hanchuan knew that he had killed Rong Ziping…

Cheng Jizhou hesitated.
In just a short while, the zombie barrier he had formed had been broken through by others.
Someone had entered.

Instinctively, he wanted the zombies to devour that person who didn’t know what was good for him.
Cheng Jizhou forcibly suppressed the thought and turned his eyes back to their clear sky-blue color.

“F*ck! Why are you here!” Lu Mao rushed in, his face covered in zombie blood, “The boss has gone mad looking for you!”

Cheng Jizhou’s eyes flickered, and most of the zombies that had gathered around him dispersed, leaving only a few stray ones, which were quickly taken care of by Lin Hanchuan, who had rushed over.

At the sight of Lin Hanchuan, Rong Ziping felt as if he had seen a savior, “Tu Ji…”

Before he could finish saying the name, a figure had already rushed over and plunged into Tu Ji’s arms, sobbing and crying, “There are so many zombies, I was so scared.
Fortunately, big brother came in time; otherwise, how would I survive?”

After finding out the true identity of the Zombie King, seeing him act so shamelessly, acting pitiful and coquettish with such skill and expertise, Rong Ziping was dumbfounded.

“It’s alright.” Lin Hanchuan comforted Cheng Jizhou for a few words, then looked at Rong Ziping with a cold gaze.

“Tu Ji, don’t be deceived by his act.
He’s actually the Zombie King.
He had the zombies devour my subordinates and even tried to harm me! Fortunately, you arrived in time…” Rong Ziping’s voice weakened as he spoke.

Lin Hanchuan remained composed, while Lu Mao and Wei Zheng frowned with disgust.
“Young Master Rong, you’ve seen it yourself; he’s just an ordinary person without any power.
When faced with danger, all he does is cry.
Your Rong family’s recruited members are too weak, and there’s no need to push the blame on him during this critical time of clearing the zombies.”

Wei Zheng was also unusually angry, “Even though you rich folks can have everything your way in this apocalypse, at this moment of crisis in clearing the zombies, you’re still only concerned about your personal feelings.”

Cheng Jizhou had been with Lin Hanchuan all along, and even if they were separated for a while, it was impossible for them not to find each other for so long.
Looking at Rong Ziping again, the others still had some misunderstandings.
They merely thought that Rong Ziping had hidden the person somewhere and didn’t know how to deal with him.

If it weren’t for the weak strength of the Rong Family’s team of mutants, Cheng Jizhou would probably have completely disappeared, and there would be no way to find him.

By this account, they should thank these zombies for holding back Rong Ziping and the others, giving them time to rescue Cheng Jizhou.

And Lin Hanchuan knew Cheng Jizhou’s true identity.
He thought more than anyone else.
If Cheng Jizhou wasn’t the Zombie King, if Cheng Jizhou was really just an ordinary person… could he still pretend to cry and throw himself into his arms?

Anger surged through Lin Hanchuan’s heart, and he shielded Cheng Jizhou behind him.
“Young Master Rong, it seems you have forgotten what I told you.”

Rong Ziping was so hateful that he gritted his teeth.
Clearly, he was the victim.
Clearly, Cheng Jizhou was the murderer who killed so many people.
But no one believed him; they only believed this seemingly gentle and harmless mixed-blood individual.

“What I said is true.
He is the Zombie King!” Rong Ziping yelled in frustration.
“You don’t believe me; just bring him back to the lab, and you will see that I am telling the truth!”

This Zombie King, who looks no different from a human, has intelligence and can control zombies.
Perhaps they could extract virus antibodies from him, allowing the Rong Family’s research institute to develop a cure for the virus!

Lin Hanchuan tightened his grip on Cheng Jizhou’s hand.
He could tell that Rong Ziping truly wanted to take Cheng Jizhou back to the research institute, draw blood, flay his skin, dissect him, analyze every drop of his flesh and every inch of his bones, and uncover the secret of how he retained his consciousness.
